We're never satisfied with what we're given, are we? Stampin' Up comes out with the most adorable exclusive matchbox die and within minutes we're complaining that it doesn't hold enough chocolate. We love cute and teeny and tiny BUT we also love our chocolate. Well, there's a solution to that serious problem and here it is. You CAN extend the matchbox easily to be nearly twice its normal length. The pencils in this picture are over 4 inches long!
Here's the die at regular size, closeup. And below, I've placed FOLDED cardstock close to one end but not over the cutting edges of the end. You can adjust how near or far you set the fold from the center of the die, and it will make a shorter or longer box. Then run it through the machine.
And here you can see how much bigger the extended matchbox is compared
to the regular sized one shown on top. It goes together exactly the
same way, except that whereas the regular sized matchbox needs no
adhesive to put togethjer (you DID know that, right?), you might want
to put a little SNAIL on the long sides of the extended matchbox
because they could use a little reinforcement.
You will need to make your own lid for this since it is a different size--but not to worry--just measure the length of the matchbox and cut a strip of DSP. Wrap it snugly around the box and pinch all the folds up nice and crisp. Take it off and trim off any excess, then use Sticky Strip to close. Easy peasy. In the photo at the top of the post, I used the regular sized matchbox lid on an extended box because I wanted the pencils to show out the top. All depends on what you are putting inside the box.
Now, you'll have a fold in the center of your extended matchbox, of course. You can disguise this fold by smoothing it out with your bone folder or cutting a piece of DSP to fit the inside bottom of the box. However, most people don't take the lid entirely off a matchbox anyway, so they'll never even see it. Especially if you put enough chocolate in it.
Wow... Thanks so much for sharing!
It came out sooo cute!
