Sorry for the date stamp on these photos. When I took these my camera was still missing and I was using my in-laws' instead and didn't know it was on. Grr!
We really enjoyed our little getaway last weekend after the wedding. The owners had done a nice job of decorating true to the era of the home, and yet cleaner and more restful than the over-the-top Victorians could be. I had to share the pictures of our pretty room, because I just adore toile and it was very inspiring to me! I LOVE monochromatic color schemes, so I was delighted when I saw that the English Room was available for the night we needed.
We stayed at the Country Victorian B&B in Middlebury, Indiana, and it was excellent. Not only was our room beautiful and POSH, with luxury linens, enormous towels, a whirpool tub and fireplace, everything was absolutely spic and span and the food was utterly decadent and creatively arranged. We had "banana splits" for the first course, made with yogurt and fresh berries instead of ice cream and chocolate sauce!
The history lover in me just delighted in all the little details at the breakfast table--the crystal knife rest, the individual jam pots and salt and peppers, the different stemmed glasses for various beverages, the linen napkins. There were little embroidered, beaded linen doilies specially to cover the water and juice carafes. We had a wonderful time conversing with the owner and the other guests and no one wanted to leave, although we all had exciting things planned for the day!
Mike and I went to the Menno-Hof, a museum run by Amish and Mennonites and dedicated to providing an accurate picture of both how they came to be and what they believe today. We did not take any pictures out of respect, but if you are ever in Shipshewana, you really should go--it is a first class modern museum with interactive displays and multi-media (kinda funny considering the Amish restrictions on electricity). It was all highly interesting. We Baptists came from the same exact roots, so we have a lot in common with their beliefs, although we definitely differ in the practice of our daily lives!
Anyway, stay tuned for some cards inspired by the theme of our guest room, and photos of the baby cards I made last night. I got carried away and made a bunch! Those little baby tees are irresistible.
Oh, Lyssa - you are right. This room is beautiful. We, too, have visited Shipshawana and enjoyed the shops and museum. Yes, it does seem strange since they don't use electricity in their homes. On my first visit there, I was surprised to see an Amish woman on a cell phone, too.
By the way, I love, love. LOVE your new colors and blog design.
