EDITED: This contest is now closed! Thanks to all who participated. I bought the paint today--stay tuned for a photo of the finished room soon! Cassandra is the winner of the blog candy contest. Email me with your address and choice of wood or clear mount Awash with Flowers stamp set! zwolaneks@att.net
I bought a red couch today! I'm so happy. It's GORJEAOUSORIFICALLY FANTABULOUSO! I can't wait to bring it home tomorrow. Now, what to paint my walls? They are currently the same exact shade of red, so they have to change!
What would you pair up with Cherry Cobbler? The woodwork in my house is Early Espresso. The carpet is a very light gray Berber with an extremely subtle darker gray diamond pattern. There's a big archway into the kitchen, which is So Saffron right now (might have to change that too). And I have lots of big old windows in this house, so don't be afraid to go dark!
That sound you hear is my husband groaning, "not AGAIN!" because this will be the fourth color my living room has been in eight years. Hee hee! I do all my own painting, though, and he always likes it when it's done.
And just to spice things up, let's throw in a stamp set giveaway! Leave me a comment below telling me what you'd do if you were as fantastically lucky as to find the red couch of your dreams on Craigslist right in your own town AND your handsome husband owns a truck, and I will put your name in a drawing for a free Awash With Flower IN YOUR CHOICE of wood or clear mount! That might just be the longest run-on sentence I have ever composed. Can you tell I'm excited?
Congratulations on the awesome find! I always kick myself after I hear of people getting great stuff on craigslist, because I always forget to look! If I were so fortunate to someday find my dream Cherry Cobbler sofa I would paint my walls a yummy shade of Crumb Cake, 'cause I am not BOLD in my color choices. But, it would be like the perfect pastry in my living room everyday! :) I see on the Color Coach that they pair Daffodil Delight with Cherry Cobbler and Early Expresso. HMMM? Sounds like a solution for your existing situation! Oh, and since I know you can handle BOLD looks, think about Elegant Eggplant walls with the Early Expresso trim and lovely Cherry Cobbler sofa! Keep us posted!

I'd leave the walls the color they are and see if people can find the couch. (I already have that stamp set, so I'm not looking for a win here...)
OR, just shimmer spray the walls so they look a little different.
It's late...I keep giggling...I need to sleep

St Vincent's does have some good deals, eh?
BTW, do NOT paint the living room. Paper it.
With every color of Stampin' Up paper you have. Maybe leave the stairway white so you can STAMP on of each of your stamps right on the plaster.
You'rrrrrrre welcome

Not sure how Crumb Cake would look with your two-tone gray carpet, but perhaps More Mustard would be a good choice with your Super Duper red couch. Sounds like you scored on Craigslist ~ way to go!

I was thinking More Mustard too. That gray carpet is really throwing me though. I love the mustard and cobbler with espresso combo though. I can't wait to hear what you decide and we MUST see a pic! LOL! Congrats on finding the perfect couch! tdkonc at gmail dot com

This is so exciting! I would go with Bravo Burgandy! Keep us posted and post a pic when you are done! I sure do admire you for using dark colors!

Hi Lyssa,
Not sure of the syle of your home, traditional, contemporary, etc., but I think you would be "safe" with More Mustard, So Saffron, River Rock or Daffodil Delight. You could always use Daffodil and Mustard as accent pillows on your new couch.
Definitely post photos as we all would like to see the finished project.
Be Blessed,
Shannon Willis

I love yellow mixed with reds and browns.
I think Daffodil would be a great color with a cherry red couch, (though you might have to change the kitchen paint too... I'm painting my kitchen celery soon, to coordinate with my dishes.)

I too thought Crumb Cake would pull the darker rich colors together with the gray carpet for a lighter color choice, or you go with Always Artichoke for the living room as a darker color that would pull the gray carpet in.Is there is any "transition" to the kitchen maybe use the crumb cake for that? or for the kitchen too! along with the artichoke. My 1st choice for the living room is the Always Artichoke! Glad you found a great deal on your dream couch! Sue

Long time lurker here, but I couldn't resist leaving a comment since I, too, have a beautiful red couch that I love so much I'll have it for the rest of my life. My couch is modern, and I have 2 contrasting chairs in a color similar to Pear Pizazz. My accent wall is Always Artichoke (but then my carpeting is beige/brown berber, not gray). I think Baja Breeze would be wonderful with your dark woodwork and gray carpeting, and it would be beautiful with the So Saffron kitchen. I can't wait to see what color scheme you come up with!
Posted by: Vicki | 08/21/2010 at 07:54 AM
What about Baja Breeze? Does anybody think that might be cool with Cherry Cobbler? I think it might be a 'warm" enough blue that it wouldn't be too cold in the winter.

kinda looks like I like the same colors as others here, but my thoughts were to paont living room Sahara Sand with Elegant Eggplant or Rich Razzleberry and repaint the kitchen more mustard (or atleast use MM as an accent in So saffron) You could even throw in a little cajun then too - gallon quart pint!

Congrats on finding the couch of your dreams, in town no less! I think a blue/grey of some sort would go well but I'm not great at picking paint colors. I would love to see pictures when you are done. Enjoy the new couch. jmniffer

Ooh, a red couch sounds way cool! With grey carpet and espresso woodwork, I would definately think along the lines of a darker grey accent wall behind the couch, with bashful blue surrounding...kinda pull it all together.

Paint your walls marina mist. I love the combo of marina mist, cherry cobbler and early espresso and it would blend with the grey carpet and saffron kitchen. Isn't it fun finding great deals. I love garage sales as I find the best stuff at great prices! Have fun painting.

I think Baja Breeze would be wonderful, it goes well with reds and grays. Have fun painting.

Lyssa, Baja Breeze and Cherry Cobbler are very nice together, and might work with the gray carpet. Isn't it nice that instead of painting splashes of color on your wall you can line it with CARDSTOCK or DSP to check how the colors look...and I know you have the 12x12's so that will be a great size to use! Let us know what you decide....pictures are definitely in order...by the way. I am not looking for the stamp set either...so if I "Randomly" win please choose another name! Thanks!

THe color I am suggesting is not really a SU color but it ties in with them. ( : A golden tan color - It is called River Rock (in the paint that we got) It might be comprable to crumb cake with a touch of gold. We have a similar surroundings and the wall color is very nice and warm! Can't wait to hear your choice. ( :

My first thought was Crumb Cake, but I'm thinking of your bold color addition and think Marina Mist would be a fun choice. That's the color we just finished painting our bedroom and we love it with Chocolate Chip and Crumb Cake. A Cherry Cobbler red would really be a nice pop!

Since your carpet has a light gray shade, I'd go with a medium gray for the walls. I would keep the So Saffron arch and use pillows of the So Saffron plus other regal colors. Beautiful! Have fun!

OMG, this is FUN! I was racking my brain until I read Kathy Mc's suggestion of More Mustard. Whipped out my color coach and I TOTOALLY AGREE! More Mustard would fan-stinkin'-tastic and you could keep the So Saffron wall in the kitchen. Oh I love fresh paint! 4 colors in 8 years- my hubby would kill me!

Hi, what a great blog candy idea! I really love Wild Wasabi, Cherry Cobbler and Early Espresso together, and you could keep the So Saffron cause it would look great with those colors too!! Hope you find something that you'll all enjoy, and thanks for the chance to win!

My daughter has a red couch, but I think it's somewhere between Real Red & Poppy Parade; she has white woodwork and she painted her walls somewhere between Soft Suede & Crumb - a warmer shade. Looks terrific.

Given all the colors that you have going on all around, I would stick with a nice rich shade of tan.
By the way, I love your blog, and really appreciate the one you have up for demo's.

I do home staging, so I'd paint your living room a light green shade. Green complements red nicely (hence Christmas colors). However, you might also go with a light gray color for some sophistication since gray also goes with mustard.

Ahhh, memories of the red sofa we had some years ago. Loved it (it was also a hide-abed so the day it was sold, it nearly gave the new owner a hernia). Back to your paint problem...a shade of gray to enhance the carpet & truly make your sofa the focal point. Good luck...don't forget to post after the painting party!

Red is my favorite color, and I think you're so lucky to find the "perfect red couch"! My first thought was to paint the walls a rich Blue color. I love Red, Blue, and Gray together. Good luck with your decision. I'd love to see pictures when you're finished.

I really like either Crumb Cake or River Rock to go with the Cherry Cobbler. If you have some really cool accent pieces, you could go with a Very Vanilla.

If you want to leave the archway so saffron I would do the rest of the walls so saffron, I think those colors look nice together, otherwise I would paint it crumb cake.
Please post pics when it is all done, I can't wait to see what you come up with... I am sure it will look amazing!

I would have to say So Saffron like the kitchen or a basic color like Crumb Cake or maybe even River Rock.

Good for you - finding the couch of your dreams in that gorgeous color! How about a green shade similar to sage shadow so that the grayish tone compliments your carpet? Have fun!
Posted by: Tracy | 08/24/2010 at 11:48 AM
I don't check craigslist very often either. So happy you found your red couch. I have to agree with a shade of blue to match your grey carpet. I think either baja breeze or marina mist would work. Definitely post pics when you are done.
Posted by: Kathy anthony | 08/27/2010 at 05:21 AM
River Rock would look good with the couch, not sure about the grey carpet though.

try using gradient radial colors on your walls..it would really make a good lighting effect on the walls :)
