Look at the fun project we're making at Big Shot Club tonight! Did you know the Big Shot can cut through metal flashing? It sure can! That thing is AWESOME! We're going to make snowlake ornaments and tealight candle holders from simple metal flashing.
I learned a few things the hard way, so here's some tips for you!
- The Craft & Rubber Scissors cut flashing like buttah! AND it sharpened them!
- The more detailed the die, the harder it will be--I used the Snowflake die and it worked much better one way than the other, because one direction two arms of the snowflake go through at the same time--and the other direction, they are staggered.
- You'll need a shim to get it to cut all the way through. I found one layer of the thin cardboard that comes in the packs of DSP to keep them from bending works well. Anything thicker wouldn't go through.
- The edges are sharp... not overly so, but you can hurt yourself, so watch it.
- Be prepared for the roll of tightly wound flashing to spring apart with a great deal of force when you open it.
- Pick out the little pieces that get stuck in the die, or cling to it via static, before you run the next one through, because you can cut off deadly little shards and slivers of metal the next time you do.
- Use a brush to clean all the little bits and pieces of metal off your crafting table, and not the side of your hand (ask me how I know!)
These are the kinds of tips you learn at my Big Shot Clubs! I'd love to have you join us on the first Monday night of each month, and learn all the amazing things this machine is capable of. If you already own a Big Shot, it's just a $25 minimum order each month--and if you don't own a Big Shot yet, you can purchase one on the installment plan of just $30 a month for four months. Lyssa,
Thanks for all these practical tips! My niece wants to make ornaments for her friends, and I thought snowflake die with FLOAM, but she wants "metal". I appreciate you go through all the blood and injuries so that I don't have too! What a good friend you are!
