31 Pages in 31 Days: 8/3/14

Happy Sunday! It's Day Three of 31 Pages in 31 Days--are you keeping up, or just joining us? I encourage you to set aside a little time and space to get some pages done with me this month. My goal is 31 pages in the 31 days of August 2014, as part of my Scrapbooking Summer School challenge to those attending my classes here in town. You can play along at home, too!

Today's two-page spread is all about August--the hot, saturated colors of summer with a the little teensiest bit of back-to-school thrown in with the elements of notebook paper and Basic Gray. I used the new Project Life by Stampin' Up set Day to Day stamp set to make my calendar--love that you can make any month or any day of the week, plus all your numbers as well as the four seasons, with one stamp set! And it comes in photopolymer, so it's super easy to get good placement.

I used elements from the Everyday Adventure accessories kit to embellish everything. That cool die-cut shown above is one of the pieces from that accessory kit, as are the little wooden place markers and arrows. I colored my wooden elements with a marker to coordinate with my page.

The colors for this spread were drawn directly from the Confetti Celebration Designer Series Paper pack and are Hello Honey, Tangelo Twist, basic Gray, Pistachio Pudding, and Whisper White. I added a little texture to the page with Tangelo Twist satin stripe ribbon and Pistachio Pudding thick Baker's Twine.

Got Questions?

I'm often asked why my pages are almost always shown without photos on them. The answer is two-fold. Number one, it's much easier for class attendees to "see" the layouts without cute photos of my kids in the way. To assemble the pages as I designed them (although improv is definitely encouraged!), they must be able to "deconstruct" the page into elements so they can put their own kits together.

Secondly, photos are a great distraction from actually scrapbooking! Many of my class members were skeptical of my no-photos approach when they first started coming to my events, but most agree now that they get way more done by focusing on the layouts first, and popping the photos in afterwards. My layouts are all designed with great flexibility in mind, and most pages can take anywhere from one to six photos, depending on what you need to make fit. I'll be talking more about this style of scrapbooking in future posts.

I did a page earlier today before you posted and I can't believe that my layout is quite similar to what you have. I used different color scheme, but I just can't believe how it kind of looks alike. Mine is just a one page spread, but I am so glad I'm taking part of this challenge. I do the same layout for both of my kids' scrapbooks, just changing up the picture, so I have gotten quite a bit done over the last three days, all because of this "challenge."
