We're trucking right along with our summer blog series, 31 Pages in 31 Days! Thanks for joining us here at Song of My Heart for a fun month of immersion scrapbooking. Are YOU up to the challenge?
First things first! We have our first blog candy winner.... drum roll please! Congratulations to Deepa M, winner of Week One! Deepa has won a package of scrapbooking goodies retailing more than $50.
Not a winner this time? You can continue to enter each week by leaving a comment on any 31 Pages in 31 Days blog post of the week, beginning today. U.S. Residents only, please. No purchase necessary to win. Good luck!
Today's inspiration page, if you're playing along, has a fun nautical-theme and makes great use of 3x3 squares.
It's hard to beat bright red, classic navy, and crisp white--and when you throw in some aqua and an understated taupey gray, you have a great combination of old-school and upbeat.
Suggested Color Combination:
The right hand page is a traditional color-block layout, which I use a lot, but I did a little different treatment with the center this time. The white crumpled mat in the middle is 5x5 inches square and overlaps the four corner squares--but it overlapped itself by the remaining four squares. It really added to the nautical feel when I added the silver metallic buttons, I think.
TODAY'S TIP: crumpling a mat or layer is a great way to add texture and subtle interest to a layout without adding to the expense or the busy-ness of it. Don't over-do the look, however--the effect we're going for is not "trashy," but "texture." If you have super thick cardstock that's hard to crumple, spritz it with water to dampen it first. The water will help break down the bonds and be way easier on your hands.

I really like the addition of aqua to the red, white, and navy! I don't think I would have thought to make that color combo.

I enjoy your layouts. I have done scrapbooks but, this gives me incentives to begin again.

I love the combination of stripes and prints. You make it look so easy, although I know it takes a good eye to mix stripes with other papers. Thanks for another great layout!
