Spring occasions are a Piece of Cake!

I've been playing with my new Piece of Cake stamp set and punch bundle and I'm just loving how versatile it is for all of my spring occasions. Wedding, birthday, anniversary, new baby, congrats--it's all an excuse for cake! I love that each cake is a little different.

And because it's a punch, it's so easy to make a bunch of cards at once--perfect for invitations or thank yous for each of these occasions, too! I love dies, but punches are my favorites. They are the workhorses of the craft room, for sure.

I like this next one best of all the cards I made during this session. That Call Me Clover bright emerald green  is such a hot color right now. And this layout was perfect for using up some long narrow strips of leftover Happiness Blooms paper.

Swapping samples by the dozens! OnStage 2019

One of the things I love most about swapping samples with other demonstrators at Stampin' Up events if that I get exposed to a big variety of techniques I either have never seen before OR haven't used in ages. This top card uses the Country Floral embossing folder, inked up with ink before running through the Big Shot. Wow! a totally different, vintage look.

This card was one of my favorite layouts. Clean, classic, bold design with a crisp color scheme... I'll be copying this one, for sure!

Here's a sweet example of the new dog punch and set. I am so glad the cat and dog items made it into the next main catalog. I am definitely not done playing with them yet!

So many fun ideas to try! I'll need a month of Sundays to work on them all. And which one do I start with first??? First world problems, I know!

Like my patriotic centerpieces??!!I had fun this weekend sewing paper bunting, making nametags and creating these boxes for a unique event I am inviting YOU to participate in!

I'm busy preparing for a HUGE stamp camp in which my Stampin' Up team is attempting to make 1,000 cards in a single evening! From 6-9 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd, a whole ton of stampers are getting together to work on cards for Badger Honor Flights out of Madison, Wisconsin. Mount Horeb United Methodist Church has graciously donated the use of their building and we're looking forward to a totally fun night with a silent auction, raffles, photos ops, yummy treats, card displays and lots and LOTS of stamping!

We're especially excited to have a representative from the Stampin' Up home office, my good friend Shannon West, as our special guest. It's going to be so fun! I know it's short notice but I hope you can make it!

Twenty-five area demonstrators have designed and donated 40 prepared cards each to be stamped and assembled that evening, for a grand total of 1,000 cards to be given to veterans as they return home from their day of recognition in Washington, D.C. We will be stampin' our little fingers off to get them all completed. We could use some extra sets of fingers!

Fun with ferns and a sneak peek of a new set!

A humble little fern was the first stamp I used out of the new Daisy Lane stamp set, coming June 4th, 2019. This stamp set's main features are a new stamp for the super-popular Daisy Punch, AND a brand new smaller-sized daisy stamp with coordinating punch. I am very excited about the chance to play with them together to create all sorts of fun flowers!

But for now, I got stuck on the fern stamp. I came up with three cards from this session, and here they are! I used the same color scheme for all of them:

Tranquil Tide is in retirement right now, so let me encourage you to grab an extra package of cardstock and an ink pad refill before this gorgeous color is gone for good.

The third and final card is a layout taken from my Enjoy Life Class of the Month from June 2018 (still available!) This one is great for using up strips of scrap cardstock. The horizontal lines help balance the strong upright thrust.

Here's another sneak peek, this time of a sweet new embellishment collection called Bird Ballad trinkets. Roses, leaves, keys  and tiny boys in an antique brass finish are the perfect little accent for your projects.

TOP TIP: worried about mailing stuff like this? Stampin' Up embellishments are designed to be as thin as possible. Cut down old bubble-wrap mailers into flat rectangles the size of your card. Place over your card front bubble-side down. Place in your envelope with the embellishment towards the back (not the addressed side) and more towards the top rather than the bottom. When in doubt, stick on another stamp! Better safe than sorry.

Sample swapping for the win! OnStage 2019

More swap cards to share today from the pickin's at Stampin' Up's OnStage 2019! Have I convinced you that you need to go to this with me next time??? I have only missed three events total since I started attending them back in 2007. They are just amazingly fun and valuable, and getting to view and take home new toys is only topped by seeing all my friends for a giant sleepover in some cool new city.

Sample swapping is a big highlight of any Stampin' Up gathering, and it's easy to see why when you look at the cards I brought home!

Loved this cute Dandelion Wishes card. It would go perfectly with the layouts and techniques from the March 2019 Class of the Month, which is available now if you didn't get it last month!

I just love seeing other crafters' choices in layouts, color combos and stamp set pairings. BUT... while it's fun to look, make sure at some point you put down the screen and go stamp! It's amazing how many stampers tell me they don't have time to stamp... but they seem to have plenty of time to pin, share, comment, etc. If you have 15 minutes, you can make a card from my Ready to Make It? category. If you have a Paper Pumpkin kit, you can make a card anywhere!

Turn off the computer and go get in the craft room!  : )

Swapping sunshine in a blizzard! OnStage 2019

There was a spring blizzard last weekend, but that didn't stop almost 1300 Stampin' Up demonstrators from gathering at our regional OnStage event in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Us midwesterners still haven't taken the emergency blankets and shovels out of our cars yet anyway : )

The weather wasn't great, but we brought our own sunshine along! Check out these gorgeous samples that I swapped for.

It's like a treasure hunt, I swear. We swap so fast you don't really get to admire the individual cards, so when you get back to the hotel and go through your bag it's one ooh and ahh after another as you spot the little details and run your finger over the textures.

Then you trade sample bags with your roomies and go through each other's! Because everybody winds up with a different collection of swaps based on what part of the room and what time of day they did their trading.

I have to mention the stamp set on this last card... Coffee Cafe is retiring! Sad sad sad to see this one go. Be sure to take a last peek and see if it needs to go in your permanent collection. It's got matching framelits, so if you want it, don't wait. Dies sell out fast and since Stampin' Up doesn't make those ourselves, we can't replenish the stock before the catalog is over. I would hate to see you miss out!

Sweet new sample swaps from OnStage 2019

I'm back with more of the amazing sample swap cards I traded with my fellow demonstrators at OnStage earlier this month. I took about 70 card fronts (big thanks to my assistant Penni for helping me get that done on time!) and we had a ball. You can never take too many swaps to a Stampin' Up event. Whenever you run out, there will always be one more amazing idea you see someone handing out!

We demos love to swap because we get samples for stamp sets we don't own (yet...) and new ideas for stamps we do have. That enables us to help our crafty friends with their projects as we choose color combos, layouts, set choices and embellishments. Wherever there are Stampin' Up demonstrators gathered, there WILL be swaps!

Some swaps are simple, like an introductory card for brand new stampers. Others are knock-your-socks-of WOW cards, like the kind you'd prepare for an advanced class. And most are somewhere in between, the type that the average crafter enjoys making. I love them all, from clean and simple to over-the-top!

So what do you think? Would sample swapping be a part of being a demo that you would enjoy? It's one of those perks that people don't even think about when they're considering joining, but it ranks really high on polls about what demonstrators love most.

I think it's because when you get those new toys in your hands, the creativity just spills out and you have to have somewhere for the excess to go! I already can't wait for our next event so I can decide which designs to share. Stay tuned for more samples tomorrow!

Super sample swaps from Stampin' Up's OnStage!

I received some really pretty samples from fellow demonstrators at the Stampin' Up OnStage conference last weekend. I'm not completely unpacked yet, but I snapped some quick pics of some that really caught my eye! My demo friends are sooo talented!

I love the way this next Climbing Roses card uses clear acetate Window Sheets. What a fun and unusual card!

Love the way this little piggy has been stamped and cut out of patterned paper. Such a fun look! So many cute little details. Sample swapping is probably my second favorite part of attending OnStage. Getting together with my friends is first, of course!

I already can't wait for the next one in November 2019 in LAS VEGAS! I'm not sure Vegas is ready for a couple thousand crazy stampin' ladies! Look out world!

The only thing that could have made this past one better was if YOU were there! Now's actually a really great time to join Stampin' Up, right before the brand new catalog begins. Remember, you don't have to hold parties or even collect orders if you don't want to. You can just order for yourself, or just sell online, or try doing a monthly card class and see what happens.

easy masked happy birthday confetti card

Penni and I are off to the Stampin' Up OnStage in Minneapolis this weekend (please pray for the cruddy weather to stop!) and this is my sample swap to trade with other demonstrators. I hope they like it! It's colorful and fun to make. I used the Stamparatus for perfect placement of the rectangular frame from Swirly Frames, and the sentiment (from Perennial Birthday).

But the really fun part is the confetti stamps from Birthday Backgrounds! To get the nice crisp line along the top of the frame, I masked off the area with post-it notes. That way there's no accidental stamping outside the frame, leaving it clean and clear.

TOP TIP: use Post-It notes to mask off any areas you don't want to stamp on, but also any areas of any card you need to keep clear of smudges and fingerprints while you're working. This is an inky hobby, so keep baby wipes close, and always check hands after opening and closing ink pads, too.

The finishing touch is a Classic Label punch cut in half and added on either side of the sentiment to accent it, embellished with a Glitter Enamel Dot. You can change up the colors of the punch to pull out the color you want to accent.

What other stamp sets can you see yourself using this layout with? Instead of confetti, maybe it could be raining flowers or stars? I'm going to try this look with leaves in the fall and snowflakes in the winter, too. I love a good, versatile layout!

easy graduation card variations

We had so much fun at stamp club this week, making congratulations cards for graduating family and friends. Usually I design the card and they make three of them, but for this project, I made three versions and they could choose which ones and mix and match based on who the cards were for. They loved choosing from the specialty papers and metallics to accent a clean and basic layout.
I laid out copper, silver and gold foil sheets, along with blush, red and sparkle glimmer cardstocks for them to use. They could choose to use the "negative" left after die-cutting the "you" letters, or use the letters themselves, or both!

TOP TIP: when die-cutting glimmer papers, run it through several times as it is tough to cut. Some people have better luck with putting the die facing cutting-side up instead of down. If it still refuses to put, add a piece of cardstock as a shim to make the "sandwich" even tighter and apply more pressure as it cuts.

We really have fun at club. Motorcycle fans will love this card!

I have to share about this paper while there's still time to get it! The Classic Garage papers have a great black and white classic motorcycle print pattern. I've shared about the vintage cars, tools, gears and handyman prints in this same paper stack in previous posts (look under Cards, Masculine). It's just one of the best guy paper packs I've seen in years!

I used the same stamp set to make this card for my fantastic mechanic father-in-law. We have never had a car payment in our married lives, can you imagine such a thing? He finds decent used cars and fixes them up and keeps them going for us.

Jim is SUCH a blessing to SO many people, I just have to brag on him for a minute. He has helped dozens of pastors and missionaries find reliable vehicles, helps widows maintain their cars, and travels far and wide to pick up parts and cars for good prices. We are so thankful for the quiet, willing use of his particular talents with machines. He deserves a gift card along with this thank you card!!

New Driver congrats card

This patterned paper in the Geared-Up Garage suite is just perfect to celebrate the new driver in your family! All you need is a 5.25 x 2.5 inch strip of the key pattern, and 5.25 x 1 inch of one of the plainer patterns.

TOP TIP: I "etched" my die-cut instead of cutting it, by running through two layers of cardstock at once. The die doesn't quite cut all the way through the second layer, so you get this cool etched look, and you can use the top layer on another card.

While I had everything out, I made this handyman card to have on hand to thank the guys siding our house next week. I am SOOOO excited about that... I have always wanted a gray house with white trim and a red front door, and I'm finally getting it! It will be so nice not to have to paint this 100-year old house ever again, too! Painted houses don't do so well here in Wisconsin with the temperature fluctuations.

I'll be sure to share before and after pictures! Especially since one of the new doors will be in my craft room. : )

My first set up with STORAGE by Stampin Up!

Ok you guys!!! Squee! My STORAGE by Stampin' Up came this week and I got it all unpacked but had NO time to play until late last night. Today's post is pretty much raw pictures of my INITIAL SET UP--I reserve the right to rearrange any of this!!!

My table sticks out from the wall at a right angle, so the only wall space I have to put my storage up against is the end of the table next to my right arm as I'm seated working.

Notice how I was able to leave space for my wall outlet? There's only two in the whole room so it was important to me to have a storage system that worked around that limitation!

The first thing I needed was ink pad holders. You can see I left myself room to grow by five pads, as we're getting five new In Colors later this spring! I also bought more sets of Stampin' Blends holders than I actually need at the moment, so I can grow my collection of those, as well.

I have been storing my pads in rainbow order since our last big Color Renovation, and I love it that way, so that's what I went for. Looking at rainbow order makes me feel peaceful and creative, too.

I know you're going to ask about the older-style ink pads-- they do NOT fit in the new holder (too tall) but they stack nicely in the open cubes with room to slide the marker case in next to them, too.

One tip I learned is to do your cubical arrangement BEFORE loading it up with your pads and stuff. It's not that the cubes are so heavy when they're loaded, it's just that things will fall out if you don't hold them level while you're moving bits around.

I love that you can choose what kind of topper to finish off your stacks with. The flat toppers look so sharp, but the toppers with a storage bin are probably the most practical because I'm always knocking things down : )

As seen in the official Stampin' Up photos, the half-size wood-mount stamp cases (item #127552) fit three to a cube and make a great way to store small items like embossing powders, Brusho, Shimmer Paint, sponges and daubers, etc. My extra trimmer blades, Take Your Pick refills and Spots ink pads also fit in there.

It's kind of like playing with blocks! I had so much fun deciding if I wanted my ink pads in one giant tower, two towers, etc. I eventually went with five shorter stacks, but I already think I might change them so they're a bit closer to me.

The photo below shows how you can get two markers in next to the ink pad, if you have duplicates of some colors, like I do.

Last quick tip--all sorts of things fit in the Blends trays, like Bone Folders, my six-inch quilter's ruler, Take Your Pick tool, paper piercers, Aqua Painters, Chalk Markers, Sharpies, etc. My best discovery was that each tray also holds five of my Stampin' Spritzers. These items don't have to be stored laying down, like double-ended markers do, but the trays helped me get one more thing off my desk and free up space.

Wow!!! What do you think? I like it and I think after rearranging a bit and getting a few more open cubes, it will be as completely customized to my craft space and my odd specifications as is possible to be. I feel SO professional when I look at this wall o' fun: )

Here's the answers all your questions about these units!

Will old-design Stampin’ Pads fit in the Ink Pad & Marker Storage Trays?

No. The Ink Pad & Marker Storage Trays are designed to fit our new-design Stampin’ Pads only. Use the Open Storage Cube for the older styles and miscellaneous specialty pads.

How high can I stack storage trays?

We stacked up to 50 storage trays without any issues, BUT we would not recommend stacking that high. While our Storage by Stampin’ Up! products are sturdy, the higher you stack them, the less stable they’ll become. Use your discretion when stacking.

Can I mount my Storage by Stampin’ Up! products on the wall?

Our modular storage products are designed to sit on a table (or similar flat surface). Drilling holes in them is not recommended.

How should I use the Open Storage Cube?

The Open Storage Cube can be used to hold any miscellaneous items like ribbon, embellishments, and small punches. You can also stack your old-style ink pads in these, if you have some colors still in that formation.

Can I mix and match Storage by Stampin’ Up! products?

Yes! Our Storage by Stampin’ Up! products are modular and designed with customization in mind. Whether your space is long and low or tall and skinny, the cubes will configure to fit your space.

Do I need a Storage Lid for each 5-tray stack?

No. The Storage Lid covers the top of Ink Pad & Marker Storage Trays, Stampin’ Blends Storage Trays, and Open Storage Cubes, so you need only one per storage “tower.”

Are Storage by Stampin’ Up! products free-standing or stacked?

Both. We designed it to be free-standing and stackable, so you can customize your crafting space to work best for your personalized creative needs.

 Will there be expansions to the Storage by Stampin’ Up! product line in the future?

Like all of our product offerings, we hope Storage by Stampin’ Up! will be successful and expand, but there is no news to share at this point.

Are there any Storage by Stampin’ Up! bundles available?

How many Stampin’ Ink Refills can I store in the Storage Topper?

You can store up to 20 Stampin’ Ink Refills (or other small items like embossing powders, sponges, adhesives or embellishments) in the Storage Topper.

Are ink pads difficult to remove from Ink Pad & Marker Storage Trays?

No. When you insert an ink pad into a storage tray, a small portion of the ink pad will stick out. We designed it this way, so your ink pads will be both secure and easy to access. Same for the markers—there is plenty of space to grip them to pull out.

Can I buy single Ink Pad & Marker Storage Trays and/or Stampin’ Blends Storage Trays?

No. Both of these items include a set of five white plastic trays. Please use the configuration chart to determine how many storage units you need. You can split a pack with a friend, if you’d like! But it’s good to have a little room to grow, too.

What material do you use to make Storage by Stampin’ Up! products?

Our modular storage products are made with a versatile white, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastic, which is a lightweight and durable material. It’s wipeable if it needs cleaning or dusting, too.

How do the silicone feet work?

To protect your surface and prevent slipping, we’ve included peel-and-stick silicone feet with the cubes. Save any extras after you have your set up in place, in case you decide to rearrange or add more modules later.
