I got good and inky last week, playing with a cute new stencil from the Basic Patterns decorative masks pack from Stampin' Up. I've been using it a lot with embossing paste, but hadn't really done much inking with it. Boy was it ever fun! And soooo easy. Here's three quick cards I made during that craft session.
The first one was ombre, using Terracotta Tile (I love that shade of dusky coral). I am so glad ombre is still in style because I looooove it! So to get that color gradient background I just sponged heavily at the top and less as it went down the card. SO easy.
The sentiments and dies I used on these cards is the So Sentimental bundle from page 20 of the Spring 2020 mini catalog. Really good stitched, shaped dies to get even if you decide you don't need more sentiments.
The all-over look is quite busy, so for my next try, I sponged in a rough circle, offset near the lower right of the card. I sponged first, tried the sentiment on for size, then sponged until it was the right size. This is my favorite of the 9 cards I made that day!
For the last version, I went back to the all-over look, but this time I used two colors, adding Merry Merlot to Terracotta Tile (don't they look great together?) I sponged one side of the stylized leaves in Merlot and the other in Terracotta. I love how it turned out! And again, depending on how hard or light you sponge, the background can be big and bold or soft and subtle.
I hope I've sparked some imaginative creativity in you today! Give stencils a second look--they're so much cooler than you think, at first glance! And don't forget to pick up some embossing paste, because that is just crazypants cheap fun, too.
