I was so taken with the gorgeous sample on page 16 of the new 2020-2021 Stampin' Up catalog (request one! Lyssa@songofmyheartstampers.com) that I just HAD to see if I could recreate it at home. It worked! And it doesn't even take super fancy supplies to make, either.
Be warned, though--it's messy! Blackberry Bliss ink is our darkest and most intense purple, and it will stain. So protect your surface, staple a cardstock "handle" to the end of your sponge quarters, and have baby wipes handy. The first time I did this technique three fingers on my right hand were hot pink for three days afterward!
I did this technique live on Facebook, and I just found out how to take that Live and edit out a clip for a video. So here you go! Let's walk through making this cool background together. Our secret ingredient? Q-tips!!!
This technique will never turn out exactly the same way twice! And it will make you feel like an artist. I finished off my cards with sentiments from the Beautiful World stamp set, heat-embossed in Whisper White. Here's my supplies list so you can try it at home!

This last sample wasn't supposed to be diagonal... but I stamped and embossed the sentiment SO crookedly that I decided to cut the piece down. It turned out really cool, with the stark white contributing to both the ethereal mist and the depth of the purple. Fun!

Gorgeous, each one.. I will have to try this sometime. I did not even notice this in the catalog. Thanks for showing us. Simply stunning.

OOOHHH ! I absolutely LOVE this! I love sponging and making a mess! It's always something I am drawn to. And your "crooked" card is outstanding! That's the spirit! Make something beautiful from a "mistake". Love it! I must try this. I'll watch your video this weekend, since I'm at work now, secretly scanning my emails. :-) Thanks for sharing such beauty!

STUNNING!!! Sponging is my FAVORITE thing to do. I would never have thought to use Purple Posy cardstock though. GREAT idea! I must try this. Thanks for sharing. Hmmm...I wonder how Seaside Spray would be with Navy? I also love your crooked card....it's so pretty.
