more Purple Lovers Party projects!

So my friends are all getting their houses decorated for fall, and I'm over here having a purple party! I don't care what time of year it is, purple is always appropriate. Be sure you don't miss yesterday's Purple Lover's Party post!

Just for fun, I've put together some fall/winter season color combos with purple in them. Enjoy!

Purple is one of those chameleon colors that can serve as both a "warm" and a "cool" hue, depending on what is paired with it. Darker purples add a zing of intensity, and light purples have a calming effect. Color is so neat, don't you think?

On to our inspiration projects for the day! I really like this layout because it uses up strips from my scrap bin. The name of the paper pack is Woven Threads. These are four one-inch-wide leftovers from Scrapbooking Summer School, and it's been really fun coming up with uses for 120 of them!

Start with the one on either side, then split the different when adding the two middle strips. Makes for a very interesting, textural background. If you want more ideas for using up little strips and scraps, I have a whole blog category just for that!

Isn't that rose so pretty? When I was ready to move on from Modern Heart and chose another set to make purple cards with, To A Wild Rose was a no-brainer. It's sooo pretty with the color combo of Gorgeous Grape (outline), Highland Heather (accents) and Purple Posy (base color). I don't use a whole ton of lace on my cards, but I did like the addition of a nice crisp white half-doily that balances the layout.

I felt so clever with my "patterned paper" on these cards... the copper foil pattern is actually a treat bag that I cut apart and used on three different cards. It doesn't show well in the photos, but the copper is subtle and warms up the white. Little trick for ya!

Lace cards and tin make a nearly perfect gift!

If there's anything I like better than laser-cut lace paper, it's laser-cut lace CARDS! I literally squee'd when I saw this beautiful tin and cards in the new catalog. I LOVE that the bases are pre-cut and folded, that the envelopes are scalloped to match, that you can add color to the back of the lace using any color of cardstock you want--I love it all!

The tin itself is pretty, too--a peachy Petal Pink, with leafy branches in a coppery finish, and the perfect size for A-2 cards. You're meant to get the set, decorate the cards, tie up the tin with pretty ribbon and have an AMAZING gift for less than $20. WOW!

Here's the first of my designs that I am going to put in my tins. Wouldn't you just love receiving a gorgeous gift of cards like that? I am excited to come up with more layouts that showcase the laser-cut lace, and to come up with tags for my tins. What a fantastic gift idea!

Mason jars for spring and summer cards

I had to get out Jars of Love and play with it one more time before it retires for good! I have gotten so much use out of these lovely stamp set and the current Mason jar mania in home decor and wedding trends. It just fit with all sorts of themes for various showers, luncheons, and gatherings. It had a good run!

I also really liked that you can use all your floral stem-type stamps with the jar, regardless of which set they came in. That made it even more versatile.

I have a NEW COLOR sneak peek on this card! Did you wonder? You were right! I used the new Rococo Rose ink both full-strength and stamped-off for my flowers. It pairs gorgeously with Blushing Bride and Balmy Blue.

I looked up the word Rococo (to spell it right, for one thing) to make sure I knew what it was and here's what Wikipedia said: "an exceptionally ornamental and theatrical style of decoration" that combines "asymmetry, scrolling curves, gilding, white and pastel colors..." In other words--FANCY!!! Basically it means every inch of every surface is decorated to the max. It was a way to show wealth (and therefore power) in the time period.

The new live-action Beauty and the Beast castle was done in Rococo style, fun fact!

Floral Phrases handmade one layer cards cost just pennies apiece!

I still can't believe how pretty these are and how little time they took to make! I needed to make a bunch of classy thank you cards in a hurry, so I grabbed the retiring Floral Phrases (get it before it's gone!) because of the pretty flowers and perfect sentiments.

I was just inspired by a gorgeous blue and white china plate on Pinterest, so I knew I wanted to use Blueberry Bushel and Whisper White. And that's the END of the supply list! I didn't even use any embellishments. Wow!

I've added close-ups of each card in case you want to copy--and so you can see the really color color gradient built right into the flowers. See how some of the petals and leaves are light and others are dark? That's all done with one specially designed stamp!

This next one's my favorite...

This last one's not technically a one-layer, but it's so simple I'm including it anyway. I made my own background paper, basically. I'll probably use my Stamparatus for this next time--I was eye-balling it and it could definitely be straighter.

Just for fun I added up the grand total of what 40 of these cards would cost you!

Spring occasions are a Piece of Cake!

I've been playing with my new Piece of Cake stamp set and punch bundle and I'm just loving how versatile it is for all of my spring occasions. Wedding, birthday, anniversary, new baby, congrats--it's all an excuse for cake! I love that each cake is a little different.

And because it's a punch, it's so easy to make a bunch of cards at once--perfect for invitations or thank yous for each of these occasions, too! I love dies, but punches are my favorites. They are the workhorses of the craft room, for sure.

I like this next one best of all the cards I made during this session. That Call Me Clover bright emerald green is such a hot color right now. And this layout was perfect for using up some long narrow strips of leftover Happiness Blooms paper.

Sample swapping for the win! OnStage 2019

More swap cards to share today from the pickin's at Stampin' Up's OnStage 2019! Have I convinced you that you need to go to this with me next time??? I have only missed three events total since I started attending them back in 2007. They are just amazingly fun and valuable, and getting to view and take home new toys is only topped by seeing all my friends for a giant sleepover in some cool new city.

Sample swapping is a big highlight of any Stampin' Up gathering, and it's easy to see why when you look at the cards I brought home!

Loved this cute Dandelion Wishes card. It would go perfectly with the layouts and techniques from the March 2019 Class of the Month, which is available now if you didn't get it last month!

I just love seeing other crafters' choices in layouts, color combos and stamp set pairings. BUT... while it's fun to look, make sure at some point you put down the screen and go stamp! It's amazing how many stampers tell me they don't have time to stamp... but they seem to have plenty of time to pin, share, comment, etc. If you have 15 minutes, you can make a card from my Ready to Make It? category. If you have a Paper Pumpkin kit, you can make a card anywhere!

Swapping sunshine in a blizzard! OnStage 2019

There was a spring blizzard last weekend, but that didn't stop almost 1300 Stampin' Up demonstrators from gathering at our regional OnStage event in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Us midwesterners still haven't taken the emergency blankets and shovels out of our cars yet anyway : )

The weather wasn't great, but we brought our own sunshine along! Check out these gorgeous samples that I swapped for.

It's like a treasure hunt, I swear. We swap so fast you don't really get to admire the individual cards, so when you get back to the hotel and go through your bag it's one ooh and ahh after another as you spot the little details and run your finger over the textures.

Then you trade sample bags with your roomies and go through each other's! Because everybody winds up with a different collection of swaps based on what part of the room and what time of day they did their trading.

I have to mention the stamp set on this last card... Coffee Cafe is retiring! Sad sad sad to see this one go. Be sure to take a last peek and see if it needs to go in your permanent collection. It's got matching framelits, so if you want it, don't wait. Dies sell out fast and since Stampin' Up doesn't make those ourselves, we can't replenish the stock before the catalog is over. I would hate to see you miss out!

Cherry blossoms in the craft room

I follow the National Mall's facebook page and greatly enjoy their Cherry Blossom "bud watch" each spring. It's never at a great time for a teacher's family to go, so likely photos are the only way I'll ever get to see this seasonal phenomenon. I can only imagine how glorious it smells! I was inspired to get out my Colorful Seasons stamp set this weekend and create something with all that dazzling pink.

I researched cherry blossoms a few years ago for a historical art class and discovered how the Japanese prize the sakura (cherry blossom), holding picnics underneath the flower-laden branches each spring. The experience is called hanami ("flower viewing") which I understand is a not so much a physical event as a purposeful enjoyment of the transient beauty of the briefly-blooming flowers.They spend as much time as possible, even getting off work when they can, to spend the week or so out of doors as much as possible.

Love that idea! Imagine setting out for the day, with the sole purpose of enjoying the flowers and praising their Creator. I might need to set aside a hanami day for myself this spring.

Monochromatic flourishes

I've been playing with Beauty Abounds again! This time I chose to focus on the flourish stamp, a stylized trumpet vine and flowers, and a monochromatic color scheme. For those of you unfamiliar with the term, mono-chrome means one color plus neutrals. In our case, intense Calypso Coral and it's lighter cousin Grapefruit Grove, with Whisper White.

Monchrome is a shortcut for instant elegance and harmony, which is why you'll often see it used on wedding or sympathy cards. I needed get well cards, so I used a sentiment from Dandelion Wishes to go with my flourishes.

Typically, the fancier the flourish, the more simple the font and layout need to be. Balancing the busyness with plenty of white space and solid areas are another technique that, like monochrome, keep things elegant instead of amateur.

Petal Pink laser cut lace sheets are instantly elegant!

I just love black and white polka dots! I am so glad this paper is FREE (get it for Sale-A-Bration) because I am definitely going to need more than one pack. But I think you'll agree that what really took these cards up a notch was the addition of bits and pieces from the laser-cut lace paper sheets!

Petal Pink on one side and plain white on the other, I can't stop myself adding a bit to practically every card I make these days. I love that I don't have to get out my Big Shot and die cut anything--the sheets are super fast and convenient to use. Add a focal point and a sentiment and you're good to go!

branching out from a basic card kit

This week I needed to make a bunch of thank you cards for a special order, so I reached for one of the Stampin' Up kits called Lots of Happy. It has literally everything you need in there except a pair of scissors! The stamps, ink, clear block and watercolor pencils were all inside along with precut and scored cards and matching lined envelopes. It even comes in a giftable box so you can just add some ribbon and a tag and you've got the perfect gift for a new or just really busy crafter.

I qualify as a busy crafter : ) so I treated myself to the kit. But, as is often the case with kit projects, I couldn't resist adding touches and tweaking placement to suit my style! So the cards in this post are a combo of the Lots of Happy all-inclusive card kit (makes 20 cards) and the new Beautifully Detailed laser-cut lace paper sheets, and thank you stamps from Daisy Delight stamp set.

The card kit comes with the floral images already die cut, so all you have to do is color them. Such a timesaver, and still handmade!

Aren't they pretty? Once again that lace paper totally rocks. It's so fast and ready to go, no having to die cut and poke out little pieces all over the place. Lovely lovely lattice

I almost didn't get this set as one of my Sale-A-Bration reward choices because it's a little bit "not me." But after one session in the stamp room, I'm hooked! Lovely Lattice is PERFECT for quick but gorgeous cards. Two stamps and some coloring and I was done. I totally changed my mind about this set.

I love the new Stampin' Blends for this project--the fine tips for the detailed stuff and the brush tips for broader shading. I decided to snap a picture of the Blends I used in case you're looking for a color combo for this stamp set. My favorite touch is the super Soft Sea Foam around the lace border inside and out. It just adds a ton of dimension.

The Petal Pink version didn't photograph well, but it looks nice IRL as well. The Petal Pink Blends are pretty peachy looking depending on the colors they're paired with.

I really hope you try this technique, because the results are sooo gorgeous! In the October 2018 Class of the Month I include instructions for embossing paste techniques like this one, where you use the Delightfully Detailed lace papers as a stencil. Label Me Pretty lace note cards

Why yes, I AM still sitting over here playing with lace paper. I feel bad for those of you who don't like lace--seems like I've been using it on practically every card, lately! It's just so EASY and I don't have to get out the Big Shot or poke out all the little pieces. It's like skipping to the best part without all the work.

This week I've been working on gifts for my teamies that are going to the Stampin' Up convention next month. I had a few bits and pieces left over from making their tags, and turned them into a couple of cards with the Label Me Pretty set and coordinating punch. Easy and elegant!

I am super excited as we have DOUBLE the highest number of teammates that have ever gone to OnStage before. I am sure the fact that it's in Orlando has something to do with that : ) The special leadership event that I get to attend this year is a private dessert reception on the lake at Epcot. Won't that be cool? And we get free admission to Epcot from 1 p.m. that day, too.

simple lace paper Valentine

Hooray! We have a winner! The person who got this card was the mystery winner of the $100 anniversary gift certificate. Judith Ponton contacted me excitedly yesterday to let me know she was the 1 in 10 whose card contained the prize!!

First Frost and Delightfully Detailed wedding cards

Yes, I'm still infatuated with the Delightfully Detailed lace papers... and yes I'm still stuck on that Petal Pink/Very Vanilla combination! Do you ever get in a rut like that?? And I STILL have lace to play with after all these cards I've made with it.

Well, at least I branched out to use a new stamp set with it, right? First Frost really caught my eye in the new Holiday 2018 mini catalog. It's so much more than just a Christmas stamp set--I can really see using this one all year-round. I especially love the pieces in the coordinating Framelits set--I can use those with any flower stamps and dies, especially that sweet little berry sprig.

Today's share is about ways to use the 12x12 lace sheets that come in the Delightfully Detailed specialty laser-cut lace paper pack. All of the cards shown today used just ONE sheet, and you get four in a pack (plus the four additional cut-apart sheets), so one package is going to go a long way. But you better buy two, just in case : )

I was cleaning out my purple scrap bin because it was so full the lid wouldn't close! So most of these are Rich Razzleberry and a few Fresh Fig, with an accent of Sweet Sugarplum, which I really miss since it retired this spring. Hoping we see that one come back as a regular family member in the next color remodel.

ONE lace sheet gave me enough trimmed-out motifs to decorate 10 full size cards. if you just needed an accent bit, it would stretch even further. But I needed quick thank yous, so lace and a punch and pearls was it for me.

These are all actually quite easy layouts--it's the lace that makes them so incredibly elegant. Choose a font style for your sentiment that fits the refined feel of the textures. I used the Darling Label Punch Box for my cards.

I need ten more thank yous and I still have three more 12x12 sheets to play with, so I guess I'll clean out my bulging pink scrap bin next! Oh one more thought before I sign off today--if you don't already own a pair, treat yourself to a set of Paper Snips when you order the lace paper. They are so sharp and finely pointed, it just makes life so much better when you're handcutting around images or snipping out super-delicate flowers and leaves.

I can't wait to show you all the different ideas I had with this fabulous lace. It's soooo pretty, it's really hard to go wrong with it. I made about 12 cards and was excited about that, and then set myself a challenge to use up my entire pack of Note Cards & Envelopes and make a complete set of 20. 31 Pages in 31 Days 2018: We made it! Final page count & winners list

Whoo hoo!!! We made it! A scrapbook spread or single page posted every day during August 2018. It was a big goal, but a do-able one. Thanks to everyone who participated, and everyone who wished us luck along the way!

Wanna hear my final page count for the month? 51 counting today!!! Feels great to have gotten SO much done!

Our final inspiration page of the series is an anniversary layout. The total WOW on this page, of course, is the new Stampin' Up Delightfully Detailed lace paper! It comes in 12x12 sheets, white on one side and vanilla on the other, and you can just trim out any size pieces you want. So it's perfect for scrapbookers AND cardmakers. I have some great cards to show you tomorrow!

Wish you could see how the lace gleams!! To get the lovely rose gold color to go with my Petal Pink background cardstock, I actually used Bright Copper Shimmer Paint in a mister bottle with 70% rubbing alcohol. It dries very quickly and since it's actually paint, the glimmer doesn't rub off on other things once it's dry. Nice! Shimmer paint is available in four gorgeous colors beginning September 5th, 2018.

My sentiments are all stamped in Crumb Cake ink and come from the Beautiful Bouquet stamp set. I went with gold for the metallic accent since I was going for elegance and a trace of vintage. It turned out so pretty!
