My Paper Pumpkin kit came today and I thought I'd take a quick video so you can see what it's like to get one of these craft kits in the mail. As a demonstrator, it's a real treat to have everything all precut, scored, designed and ready to stamp and assemble. Usually I am the one doing that for others!

 Yes, I know you're surprised as it's been quite a while since a video appeared on Song of My Heart! I have been having the most horrendous technical difficulties ever... locked out of my You Tube account, phone upgraded to one that took poor quality video, new computer causing everything to have to be reinstalled, etc, etc, etc. I honestly began to wonder if I wasn't supposed to be headed this direction, there were that many roadblocks. Ever felt like that?

I still can't get into my YouTube account, so I started one on Vimeo, which I've always liked anyway. So if you'd like to follow that one, that's where I'll be playing for the foreseeable future. I won't miss the idiot commentators on You Tube, that's for sure : )

eeky epic adventure: paper pumpkins and mini monsters

Ahhhh! I can't wait any longer to share what we cooked up for this post! Welcome back to Penni & Lyssa's eeky epic Adventure for 2018. Aren't these Takeout Treat critters just TOO cute??? I had no idea this little box die was going to be so versatile.

I was thinking it would just be a cute treat container that I'd show decorated in different ways with fun tags... instead we wound up with a creativity explosion in the craft room!

Any day you use googlie eyes in your project is going to be a good day, right? Here's a few notes on the four boxes, in case you decide to make some for yourself! Left to right:

• Girly Ghost: cut Takeout box in Whisper White and assemble. Add googlie eyes with glue dots. Hand-color an oval for an open mouth. Tie a Dotted Tulle bow around box with a big bow on one side of the top.
• Spotted Octopus: cut Takeout box in Rich Razzleberry and stamp with spatter dots from the Swirly Bird stamp set in Rich Razzleberry ink. Assemble and add a mouth in White Chalk Marker. Cut eight 1/2-inch by 5.5 inch legs and run through the Corrugated embossing folder. Curl around a pencil and attach with glue dots around base of box.
• Silly Spider: Same as octopus, only in Basic Black, and with little fangs in the smile. Don't curl the legs up as tightly. Make a little sign on a toothpick and poke into side of box so it looks like one of his legs is holding it.
• Frankenstein's Monster: cut Takeout box in Granny Apple Green and assemble. Take scraps of Basic Black run through the Corrugated embossing folder and adhere randomly to head, sticking out and overlapping. Hand-draw little black stitch lines on forehead, chin and cheeks. Color White Chalk Marker on the edges of the box for a pasty complexion, and eyebrows. Add a toothpick sign as before.

Penni worked on both of our September 2018 Paper Pumpkin kits and got them all done--plus some fun leftovers that got turned into additional projects! I love Paper Pumpkin and always feel so pampered when the orange box arrives every month with my crafty suprise. Usually it's cards, but sometimes it's treats or a banner or even a mini album.

Penni creatively used her Paper Pumpkin leftover bits to decorate the new Baker's Box, cutting apart one of the spiderweb-printed cello bags for the window area--so smart! The tag was just the right size for the Silver Mini Gable Boxes, too. These box options save time if you are gifting bigger treats or don't want to invest in a set of dies. They can be stamped or covered and are food-safe.

My favorite project is the way Penni used the spiderweb cellophane on her ghost card. What a fun way to add a stripe of color and texture to a layout!

Penni & Lyssa's Excellent (Halloween) Adventure! Sweet & Spooky Houses

Welcome to Day Two of our week of creepy cuteness! Every day this week, Penni-the-Halloween-Baby and I are sharing a bunch of fun Halloween projects using brand new products from the 2016 Holiday Catalog.

Take a look at the AMAZING home decor piece Penni made with the new Sweet Home stamp set and Home Sweet Home Thinlets for the Big Shot! I gasped out loud when she brought it over to be photographed. It's so detailed!

The super crazy thing is, Penni says this actually didn't take all that long. Each house takes two passes through the Big Shot and it put together easily with Tear N Tape. You choose what door frame and window style you want to use. There are two roof styles to chose from as well.

It's so cute how she boarded up the windows! The Spooky Fun Stamp set and Halloween Scene Edgelit dies (bundled for 10% off) made it really quick to decorate the background. And the Halloween Night Enamel Dots make adorable doorknobs!

Love the cobweb stamp! And the little bats, too. Penni used a pre-printed strip cut from the Halloween Night specialty Designer Series Papers for part of the background. Clever girl!

Ready for the coolest part? You can stand this on a shelf or mantel and put electric flickering tealights inside each house! So when you have your lights dimmed to set the mood for trick-or-treaters, the light will be shining out of the doors and windows in the little neighborhood. I totally am going to make a set of these for Christmas with all the cute gingerbread house options that also come with this stamp set.

Of course, the Home Sweet Home houses were meant to stand alone... as treat containers. They're a great size for it--big, but not so big that you go into debt filling them with candy! Wouldn't that be adorable to hand out?

Product Review: Hello Sunshine Paper Pumpkin craft kit

My momma raised a thrifty girl, so it just thrills my little heart to be able to use up EVERY little bit of something. I always feel so economical! My Stampin' Up all-inclusive craft kits are no different. The projects are cute and quick, and the whole thing is disposable/recyclable, but I always consider it a personal challenge to not allow myself to just pitch the leftovers.

Today I will be reviewing the Hello Sunshine Paper Pumpkin kit from February 2016 (yeah, I'm a little behind).

Here's what one of the original cards in the kit looked like (I loved them all!!) This kit made nine cards, three each of three different designs, plus envelopes. Everything was included, and since this kit was from a brand new subscription, it came with a free clear block, too. There was even adhesive dots for the sequins so I did not have to use messy glue.

I did use my own stamp set, And Many More, for the sentiment, but clear photopolymer stamps and an ink spot (mini ink pad) were also included in the Paper Pumpkin.

When I finished the kit cards, I had leftover die-cuts, all self-adhesive and way too good to toss. So I cut a couple of card bases, stamped a few more sentiments, and made more cards with the remaining pieces!

 
I needed a Get Well card, so I used a stamp from the A Dozen Thoughts set on this one. And while I had it out, I used it on the leaf die-cut card below as well. The "you're in my thoughts" sentiment just seemed to fit the cool, crisp greenness of this card.

Isn't that a fun, clean color combo? Bermuda Bay, Whisper White and Pear Pizzazz, love it! And the other "official" cards from the kit added Pool Party and Tangelo Twist to that mix.

So I got 12 cards out of this kit just by adding a couple more card bases from my own cardstock. Pretty sweet!

Fall decor & more! Acorn stamp and punch

 

The last Scrapbook Marathon of 2015 is in the books!  We had a fun fall theme for this one, and everything was decorated using the new Acorn builder punch and coordinating stamp set. I made these super fun treat bags with last month's Paper Pumpkin kit (makes eight bags). If you are not yet a Paper Pumpkin subscriber, contact me ASAP if you want some of these kits because I can still get them for you while supplies last!

We also used the Acorn punch on the nametags, which I forgot to photograph, and on one of our Make N Take 12x12 spreads. This simple layout was done in Delightful Dijon, So Saffron, Mossy Meadow and Very Vanilla. I'm sorry the photo is a little washed out.

This is a really versatile layout that can take as many pictures, or as few pictures, as are needed to fit. Everyone got a roll of the brand new Tear N Tape in their goodie bags, which came in handy for the burlap trim border and the canvas ribbon twist, too.

If you're on the fence about this adorable stamp set and punch bundle, let me push you over... I am really glad I got it. I have used it WAY more than I thought I might. Don't forget it looks great on just ordinary cards, too. And there's still lots of time to use it before the Christmas season.

31 Pages in 31 Days: Hooray it's Your Day!

Welcome to Day Eighteen of 31 Pages in 31 Days! The inspiration pages I have for you today are from this week's Scrapbooking Summer School--can't wait! I got fancy with last month's "Like You A Latte" Paper Pumpkin kit and used that as a starting-off point for a fun "Air-Mail" themed celebratory page in colors that would work for either gender.

The base cardstock is Tangelo Twist, and the accenting colors are Smoky Slate, Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay, Basic Gray and Whisper White. The Tangelo Twist is such a "hot" color that I chose all "cool" colors to pair with it. if you are out of Coastal Cabana, which is a retired color, Pool Party would be a great substitute.

We will be using Retro Fresh and Epic Day washi tapes to make these fun strips for our pages. I have won over a whole bunch of new converts to washi tape during this Scrapbooking Summer School!

The sentiment stamps came from a great set called Bravo. I used Basic Gray ink so they really stand out. And look--the little star punch from Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack fits perfectly on the Banner punch! I also used that star motif on the circular element in the last photo.

The torn notebook-paper piece is from the Paper Pumpkin kit, as is the air-mail themed envelope, which we're using as a photo mat, and the fun little silver paperclips with Tangelo Twist ribbons.

Last but not least, I grunged it up with the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set in tone-on-tone Tangelo ink, adding spatters and drips to break up the solid expanse of orange.
