Our first project HAD to use the adorably cute mini coffee cups and carrier from the 2020 Holiday mini catalog. it is just too much fun to personalize these kraft paper carriers and real cups with lids. Fill with candy, drink mix, or gift cards!

I can't wait to make these for all my kids' teachers for the holidays this year. They LOVE seeing what I came up with so I always try to top it! This should definitely do it.

Next up for Day One, we have a fun fancy fold! This card is so easy to make, you'll find yourself looking for more papers to cut up!

Start with a 5.25 inch by 12 inch piece of double-sided paper (Penni and I used Magic in this Night papers on most of our projects for this series). Score at 3.75 and 7.75 on the long side. Fold into a tri-fold card and add a piece of plain white on the inside to write on.

Decorate the outside as desired. Close with a gold paper clip for something different. Fits inside a regular A-2 medium envelope, bonus! but if you're hand-delivering, you don't even need an envelope for this one, which is fun and unique (and a money-saver!)

31 Pages in 31 Days: grab your flip flops!

Grab your sunglasses, hat and flip flops for today's inspiration page! I was inspired by the strips on these scrap strips I had leftover from a huge project last month. The pattern and colors reminded me of a beach towel, and the whole page came together around that.

The only bad thing about this page is that I do not have any recent beachy photos to use with it! Boo hoo!!! I miss traveling!

The colors in the strips are all 'hot" colors, so I needed to introduce some "cool" tones to make it easier on the eyes. Two shades of aqua blue (Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay) match the intensity of the red/pink/yellow tones, while calming the overall feel.

Catalog walk thru with stamping sprinkled in!

Did you miss my all-day LIVE walk-through the new Stampin' Up catalog? That's ok! You can still grab your new book and curl up with your phone as we walk through the catalog from cover to cover, pausing to stamp and chat along the way!

All five sessions recorded LIVE on Facebook on Friday, June 5th, are available to watch at leisure on Song of My Heart's Facebook fan page.

I'm posting some of the things we made that day here so you can view them up close a little better. Be sure to pin any ideas or layouts you want to save for later!

Here's some highlights from our five sessions that day.

We learned to use the new Lovely Labels Pick a Punch, which makes six different tags sizes in two different designs. So fun! Then we recreated the sample card from page 22, in a gorgeous color combo of Night of Navy, Bumble Bee, Gray Granite and Petal Pink. There are so many fun new color combos in this catalog!

This adorable baby card from page 47 was a blast to make by first watercoloring, then tinting our embossing paste for a really cool, textural background. It was supposed to have glitter mixed in, but I forgot! Oopsie! I love the mix of easy samples for beginners and those of us in a hurry--and plenty of more advanced cards with lots of details.

We also talked about how to spot versatile layouts throughout the catalog that will work with lots of different stamp sets. We made the cute card on page 55 after breaking down the layout and color combo. I don't have Zoo Globe (yet) but we made do with Inspiring Iris.

We walked through making this Ornate Frames card while discussing the TWO brand new Stampin' Up die-cutting and embossing machines that are coming out this fall! We can't wait!! We dubbed them the Big Mama and the Baby Mini : ) Stay tuned for a date, coming soon!

One of our last projects during the walk through was this Tasteful Touches card. I don't think this stamp is a capable of making a bad card! And all it is is Night of Navy cardstock and ink, and Very Vanilla cardstock. It doesn't get any less expensive than that to make your own cards at home. WOW!

After we got through the entire catalog start to finish in three sessions, we ended the day with a recap of all the basic techniques featured in the book (shared in another post), and then a relaxing session of stamping with one of my new favorite bundles. You'll have to watch the final session to see what it is!

Social Distance Cow Hugs

These cute cows from Over the Moon were on my list of retiring stamp sets to make sure you saw before they leave our lineup in May. They are just so cheerful and funny! I thought it was a great match for some of the sentiments in the new COVID-themed digital download fundraiser announced yesterday.

Speaking of fundraisers, yesterday afternoon the total was already over $41,000 donated by stampers! After not even 24 hours of being available. I think that's awesome!

Also speaking of fundraisers, I know that some of you were disappointed in the choice of charities available. I share your concerns; however, donating to COVID-specific efforts through these organizations is not the same as just donating willy-nilly to the organization as a whole. Your money will be used only for COVID-specific research and assistance--that's good to know!

Great minds think alike--I had decided to offer a printable myself but hadn't gotten to it yet before Stampin' Up did! So I did go ahead and make one available free for you all, and you can let me know where you donated in the spirit of the COVID fundraising efforts.

I had so much fun using up scraps and odds and ends last night making quarantine #sendsunshine cards. Mike brought me back a big roll of postage stamps yesterday and I intend to use them ALL this week! I think we need to redouble our efforts to keep each other encouraged right now, when it is clear we are not through this thing yet, not by a long shot.

15 Reasons why I LOVE being a Stampin Up Demonstrator

The end of April marks 15 years with Stampin' Up for me, and it's a natural time for reflection. I have ZERO regrets about getting that Starter Kit and the amazing journey it has taken me on since that point! Just for fun today I thought I'd share 15 reasons I absolutely adore being a Stampin' Up demonstrator.

4. I am excited to get out of bed every morning and reluctant to go to bed each night!

6. fantastic team of over 100 amazing ladies I am so proud to mentor

8. trips all over the world that I can earn just by sharing what I love
9. opportunities to teach others a subject I am crazy about
10. personal growth and skill development in tech, web design and business
11. income for extra opportunities for my kids like piano lessons, Lego League, a trip to Disney, etc.
12. ability to adjust my schedule when I'm unwell or need to focus on family things
13. outlet for writing and graphic design skills --I'm using my Humanities degree every day!

15. my JOB is to create gorgeous things and send them out into the world to bless others. WOW!

I never like to celebrate a milestone without making sure the gratitude goes where it belongs: first to the Lord, then to my family, and then to YOU, my  wonderful customer friends!

Year in Review 2019

The end of the year kinda snuck up on me! I just barely got this in under the wire! Here are my favorite projects from each month here on the blog during 2019. Sometimes it was hard to pick... others, not so much!

Enjoy the little retrospective!

My favorite project from January 2019 was definitely this pop-up butterfly punch art. I love rainbow colors and easy WOW's and they don't get much more colorful or eye-catching than that! This was a project from the Class of the Month files.

In February 2019 I made this sweet doggie card with the Happy Tails stamp set. I had so much fun coming up with all the different dog breeds I could think of to color with the Stampin' Blends markers. I didn't get my birthday wish for a dog this year... but I did get two adorable guinea pigs (Dash and Mr. Darcy) which I spoil rotten with all the veggies their chubby little hearts desire.

In March 2019 I must have been longing for some color and warmth. I made this clean and simple Lemon Lime Twist, Mango Melody and Coastal Cabana butterfly grid card. A nice bright POP of color in my cold craft room!

This is hard to pick just one! I made a lot of cards in April 2019. But I did really like this pretty one made with the ferns from Daisy Lane. I got a new custom-cut counter for a desk, and full-length glass door in my craft room. So nice and bright in there now!

May 2019 was tough and I didn't craft very much. Our house siding project drove me to distraction and out of the house quite a bit. But the quilt-inspired cards I managed to make with the Everything is Rosy medley turned out very cute.

I just love everything about this Seaside Notions card I made in June 2019. The gorgeous background paper is from See a Silhouette. This was a swap at our team meeting here in Watertown.

I was gone for a lot of July (on the Stampin' Up Greek Isles cruise!) but I really enjoyed working with the new In Colors when I got back. The 6x6 In Color patterned paper stack and the Butterfly Wishes stamp set and dies went well together in all of the new colors.

Amazing that anything else besides scrapbook layouts for Scrapbooking Summer School gets done during August--but I did make some cards, too, including this farmhouse-inspired one using the Country Home stamp set and the paper piecing technique.

It's hard to make clean and simple nature cards, but this one using Nested Labels from September 2019 fits the description, I think! Love that Nature's Beauty set and love that the proceeds went to mental health organizations in all of Stampin' Up's countries of business.

October 2019 was filled with the annual blog series I do with Penni, my crafty BFF. The rest of the time was spent working on Christmas cards like this Merry Moose punched card using the new Birch background stamp. I am so glad we will be seeing the Moose punch again next fall! I am not done playing with it yet.

My personal favorite from November 2019 was this Beautiful Friendship card made as thank yous for my online club members. Super easy but the end result was gorgeous. Kinda springy for the frigid weather we were having between Halloween and Thanksgiving!

For my last monthly favorite of the year, it's another clean and simple card (I just love those). This December 2019 one is from a sneak peek of a new set coming in January, called Dressed to Impress. It's just feminine and sassy and fun.

Cards for veterans

As you may recall, I promised to share the total card count from this event. Last night my team and I assembled to go over the boxes for quality control, making sure every card was written in, and to get a final count. I am SO PROUD to say that the volunteers and stampers created a grand total of 1,276 cards for Badger Honor Flight!!! I was very hopeful we'd get to 1,000, but we blew that total out of the water. THANK YOU to everyone who worked on this enormous project with us.

I know you want to see the designs, so while we were sorting and counting last night we tried to pull out one of each design and snap a pic. Please forgive me if I missed yours! I think I counted 41 total designs.

I am sorry some photos are not as clear as they should be, but hopefully if you've stumbled on this post looking for ideas to support your own state's Honor Flight chapter, make cards for your local VA hospital or honor a special soldier, you'll have some starter ideas.

Notice how many of the cards do not use a specifically patriotic stamp set. So much can be done with just the color scheme and a star punch or dies. I thought some of these were immensely creative!

I especially appreciated the amount of prep work in advance that was done so that we had a chance of making our HUGE goal of 1,000 cards. All die-cutting and any embossing or heat embossing was requested to be done in advance so all the volunteers needed to do was stamp, assemble, and write inside the cards. That was a lot of effort our volunteers put into it behind the scenes.

Looking at these cards makes me smile... as I know they will make the veterans smile when they are received during the Mail Call portion of their flight back from Washington, D.C. If you'd like to read more about our event, click here for a complete review of that super-fun evening.

Now that the cards are all packed up and waiting to be presented, I'll get back to my regular stamping schedule, I hope! I know ya'll want to see some more sneak peeks from the upcoming catalog and I will HAPPILY share them in the next two weeks! One of my stamper friends has already gotten her catalog in the mail from me--maybe yours will come today??? This is going to be so much fun! See you soon.

Honor Flight Stamp Night 2019

We gathered on a Friday night with a goal of making 1,000 cards in one evening for the Badger Honor Flights out of Madison, Wisconsin. Not only did we have a fabulous time stamping and goofing off, we got MORE than 1,000 cards done AND raised over $1600 to help veterans get to Washing, D.C. to be honored for their service. What a fantastic night!

Twenty-five demonstrators brought 40+ cards all prepped and ready to stamp and assemble. Almost 70 people showed up (including some husband-and-wife teams!) to put them together and hand-write a message inside. I still can't quite believe what we got accomplished in just three hours!!!

Of course, it's not a Stampin' Up event without handmade nametags, displays and decorations! We transformed the room into a red, white and blue extravaganza. Combined with a silly photo booth and props, card-count updates and star-spangled music--which we couldn't even hear over the hubbub of happy voices--it was such an energetic evening.

There are too many people to thank for everything that was donated and done that evening, but there's a few standouts. I especially want to thank my team for being the most amazing committee ever--I had to stop them from doing and donating too much!! Kathy Van Duser has been our Honor Flight liasion since we took them on as our team's community project four years ago. We also appreciated a visit from Shannon West (below, middle left) from Stampin' Up's home office in Utah, and their donation of SNAIL adhesive refills for our event.

It was our privilege as well to meet the super-sweet Marnette (below, top left) from Badger Honor Flight and we're looking forward to personally presenting our cards and officially registering the donations next month.

Donations included a Stampin' Up branded suitcase (our top bid!!) and hundreds of dollars' worth of other items for the silent auction and raffle. A huge thank you to every one who bought tickets, bid on items, brought food or cards and especially thank you to those who stayed past nine to make sure EVERY card was written in. Mount Horeb United Methodist Church was our host and we appreciate the use of their lovely facilities.

Penni's daughter Anna was an amazing helper during the event. She emptied trash bags over and over, brought SNAIL refills around and picked up finished cards to transport to the writing tables. She's going to make an awesome demonstrator some day!

During registration we asked our stampers to tell us who they would be stamping in honor of. I cried when I put this board together... not just for my own grandpas, who didn't live long enough to get to go on an Honor Flight, or for my great-aunties, who never married after their generation of young men was decimated. I cried for all the bravery and hope those slips of paper represent, the tears and the pain, the women left behind and the children who never got to know their dads or uncles or grandpas. These names are just the ones who made it, who came home and went on to have families and descendants who remember.

Our board was a tiny microcosm of the courage of America at her best and most honorable.  

I love that all of us worked together to pass on the practice of honoring our veterans and their sacrifices for our country and make sure every one of them got the homecoming they deserved. We will never know the full impact of our card efforts, but I love the "ripples in the pond" that we set in motion just by putting our crafty talents towards a great cause.

I hope you will look into donating cards for veterans, whether it's at VA hospitals near you or just the local nursing home or assisted living facility. They need to know we remember. Sneak peek samples from the area leadership share

Ok, the point of this Stampin' Up-sponsored event was NOT the stamping... it was a fun networking opportunity for demonstrators at a certain level and up, that I was privileged to attend with several of my team. We spent most of the day in meetings and doing team exercises in a hotel ballroom. However, we demos never go anywhere without samples to share  and swap! I thought you might appreciate seeing those pictures instead : )

Do you spot some fun new stamps and products??? We've only had our preorder for a couple of days but the ideas are already flowing!

Fun ideas, huh? I couldn't wait to get back home and share what I learned with my team and try some of the cute projects I'd seen, as well.

It really was a lovely day. The perfect blend of business and creativity. Only regret? I didn't get any people pictures!! Hello!? That was a rookie move. I am proud of my team who qualified and made the effort to attend and I'm sending them each a stamp set to let them know I'm so excited for the amazing things they are doing in their businesses. I love being their biggest fan!
